First, I'm at home with tonsilitis. For the second time in six weeks. In summer(/autumn). Is not fair. And sinister, since I have no history of tonsil trouble. Why have they turned on me?

And, far worse, I'm at home sick and livejournal is down. Noooooooo.

There be a pimpathon ongoing, so you should have seen this all over the place. But it's still well worth pimping [livejournal.com profile] still_grrr, the second challenge community I joined and by far my most active. Icons, fanart and fic all welcome. Pairing neutral; ratings vary; come and be yourself! Weekly prompts! Monthly themes! Pretty prizes for many! They are also happy to take reposted material, so you can furbish up your past work for new audiences.

My latest effort is a repost, in fact The Sum Of Their Parts a gory drabble on reincarnating Buffy.

In other news, does anyone have a B/A prompt to suggest? I have half an idea for [livejournal.com profile] iwry_marathon, but no more than that. (Please, nothing post-NFA. I'm doing Spuffy and Spangel season 8.5s already... There's pairing agnostic, and then there's pairing hussy.)

Lastly, a PSA. While peacefully sitting eating breakfast out this morning, I managed to do seriously bloody damage to my toe. Watch out for tables: they bite.

I'm fed up with London in summer. RL is not offering me the lightly perfumed bed of roses I expect from it (Okay, not expect. *Want*). I have no further holiday plans for the year, apart from a probable mother-daughter weekend break on Eurostar sometime in November, which will be very nice but isn't going to solve my current fed-up-ness. And due to the more efficient holiday plans of others, I'm stuck at work till mid September with only the occasional boiler service and doctor's appointment to break the routine. Or swine flu, naturally, but I'm hoping that doesn't pop up on the calendar.

So I've decided to do weekend things. One in Cardiff with very old friends. One in Birmingham treating myself to a nice hotel with free wifi because I've never done the city justice as a tourist.

... and one in Coventry to meet some of the fandom. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit trepiditious (trepidatious? Spell check dislikes both, but I believe in the word), because writing all this stuff anonymously feels quite different to actually meeting real people. But I suspect many in fandom feel that way initially, certainly if like me they don't have any RL friends online. And all the Writercon and Midimeet buzz is catching.

So... deep breath... Hi!

Ah, boring old cricket. I'm listening to the finals of the World Twenty20 cup (shortest form of the game - meaning it takes three hours not five days). It's being contested between a team who were very nearly murdered by terrorists three months ago (Sri Lanka) and a team whose nation those terrorists claimed to represent and who therefore won't be playing cricket at home any time soon (Pakistan). If Pakistan win, just to add to the tension, they will dedicate the victory to their coach who died last year and was believed to have been murdered. Which may yet turn out to be true.

Yawn?

Anyway, I wrote the Rome fic after all. But it has blasphemy and Angelus, so perhaps not too tedious. Appearing at still_grrr soon, and if you can't wait:

Title I Aurelians
Author Bruttimabuoni
Rating PG
Word Count 380
Prompt 123 (Rome)
Characters/Pairing (if any) Angelus, reference to James and Elizabeth
A/N: I seem to be writing a Fanged Four series for this month. Will try to keep it up. Warning: if you’re easily troubled by blasphemy, please steer clear – Angelus is feeing mocking.

1) England unexpectedly beat India by three runs and are still alive in the Twenty20.

2) Play Winifred For Me (Buffy/Fred, R) has been nominated in the Round 18 Sunnydale Memorial awards for best plot, post-series and drama. As I almost never write plot, post-series, or drama, it's especially nice to be nominated for a fic where I tried to use them!

3) Slightly perversely, in Plot Without Porn weekend, I also wrote for Porn Battle. I'm lousy at writing porn, hence the self-challenging decision. Even so I wimped out of this rather, but if you're interested Needed (Cordelia/Xander, NC17) is here. It has a tiny hint of a plot, even.

Really enjoying reading the entries at [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award. I should be writing more of these women, dammit.

In (dubious) honour of this and to furnish up the shiny new Dreamwidth [community profile] btvs_ats_femmeslash comm which is looking a little empty as yet, I've posted Play Winifred For Me there - Buffy/Fred[ish] R-rated, written for [livejournal.com profile] secret_slasha in 2008. My only f/f of over 100 words to date. There's a terrible hole in my resume...

Which I'll hope to fill now that I'm back from holidays and just about caught up with the real world and the botched reshuffle at work (blech). I may actually post some more fic in a week or more - it's been much too long and I'm getting withdrawals. Bah.

Bye all - I'm off for a much needed break in deepest Staffordshire and southern Derbyshire, staying in a couple of fabulous old buildings courtesy of the Landmark Trust - also custodians of the building in the mini-at-the-Almonry pic that's my favourite new icon.

I shall be without internet, or TV or phone come to that, and the directions for these two properties have more than the usual number of 'take the third unlabelled track on the right, NOT THE SECOND which has killer Alsatians' directions. But if I survive, I'll probably be back with fic in a week or so!

*turns back to writing Giles/Illyria/Spike smut with happy sigh*

This month's challenge at [livejournal.com profile] more_doomed is ten short rare-pairing fics based on the table below. I recently noted I've been writing a lot of Buffyverse men, and I've also not ceased to pimp [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award - so why not femslash the lot, I thought? As always with this kind of task, it's a rather mixed bag, but I hope you enjoy some of them.

I reckon it's about a year since I started to think I might write fic, though I didn't post till July. And that, together with Dreamwidth not importing memories, means I've finally decided it's time for the Fic Post

From this we learn that:
1) I still can't code and will have to add separate posts for ficlets and drabbles in due course because that was long and painful

2) Dreamwidth crossposting works like a charm (ETA so does cross-editing when you realise you really should have cut that very long list...)

3) I write a lot of Giles, but unless directly prompted I write him alone (except there's a crack Giles/Spike/Illyria I'm noodling with which may yet scandalise [livejournal.com profile] summer_of_giles if I can make it go anywhere)

4) I use the words 'two' and 'shadow' too much in titles. I like Xander coming out, and Giles and Spike cheerfully amoral about sex. I should write more Darla (two in the pipeline), Anya and possibly Faith. I've written lots of Buffy shorts, but very little longer fic about her.

5) I've written A LOT. 34 longish fics (meaning over 500 words - not exactly saga material, me) - all posted since November. Plus dozens of drabbles and ficlets, not to mention the recent poetry spasm. Never thought I was a chatterbox, but in fic terms that's virtually spamming.

6) I'm still loving it!

Title: Two Into One (or The Plucky Boy Detectives in... The Nether Wallop Mystery)
Pairing: Spike/Xander
Rating: Mature (or maybe just smutty)
Word count: 2500
Summary: two men, one mission, twin beds – and an opportunity
A/N: For the [livejournal.com profile] good__evil art-a-thon, and specifically a dastardly tempting banner by [livejournal.com profile] sevendeadlyfun - who first invoked the plucky boy detectives. Also, apologies to anyone who knows the Wallops. I don’t think they’re that bad, just a handy name and location...

Dreamwidth: yes, I'm there, same name (there is no competitor B out there, it seems. Eeeexcellent).

Now, if I can just go far enough back my flist to when the real pioneers were trying out exporting journals and telling us how to do it, I shall be nicely set.

I also seem to have IE8 installing, which is odd as I didn't know it was out yet. This is not the kind of pioneer I like to be, but I shall report any horrible bugs it brings. *is grudgingly helpful though incompetent*

Melancholy confession - nothing posted to [livejournal.com profile] fantas_magoria this week, for the first time. I am sad to lose my 100% record, but my excuse is this week's ep is Killed By Death, which is not just a least-favourite ep, but one I just don't have any thoughts about. I am empty and uncreative.

A little less extreme posting this week:

My second and last [livejournal.com profile] grazieprego fic, this one a fun 'historical' Spangel, The Adventure of the Concealed Closet

Undertones(Mal/Simon, h/c) for [livejournal.com profile] maleslashminis

Also, kindly allow me again to pimp [livejournal.com profile] kinda_gay_award, where nominations are coming in fast, but some categories still need entries - and where some categories have split, giving us the opportunity to nom even more favourites.

I'm going to be offline quite a bit of the week - look forward to seeing what new and exciting things await when I get back.
